Aapke Jewellers - Guide and Essential Informaiton for Buying Gold Jewellery

Gold necklace

Most gold jewellery sold in India is made up of 22 karat (K) gold. The karat provides a measure of the percentage of pure gold that is contained within a given jewellery. This karat is different from the "carats" that is used as a measure of the weight of diamonds and other precious stones. Pure gold is 24K but it is extremely soft and easily damaged. For this reason, most gold jewellery is not made of 100% gold. For making jewellery, gold is alloyed with other metals such as copper, silver, nickel and zinc to give it strength and durability. Different proportions of these Ear Ringsalloys can also give different color (such as rose, green, or white) to the gold. Depending upon the relative proportion of the gold and other metals, the jewellery is indicated to be of different karats (22K, 18K, 14K, 10K) of gold. Each karat roughly corresponds to about 4.17 % gold. Thus, a jewellery made up of 22K gold contains 22 parts out of 24 (i.e. 91.6%) gold and the remaining 2 parts (i.e. 8.4%) other alloys. Likewise, 18K jewellery is 75% gold; 14K is 58.5%; and 10K is 41.6% gold.

Gold braceletWhile, in India, most of the jewellery is made up of 22K gold, it is important to verify that. In the U.S. and many other countries, most jewellery pieces are made up of between 10K-18K gold. Because the price of gold jewellery is determined in large part by the amount of gold, it will vary and increase with the Karat of gold of which it is made. Thus, it is very important to know what karat of gold a given jewellery is made up of to assess and compare its prices. The current price of the gold in different currencies can be found at the following link [Current Gold Prices].

Necklace The price of gold jewellery is determined by a number of factors including weight of the gold, the design and other ornamental detailing and finish of the item. The design of gold jewellery can vary greatly in different shops with some designs found exclusively in certain shops. Additionally, the price of jewellery may also be affected by other factors such as location of the shop, its reputation, variety of designs and selection it provides and the quality of the service (i.e. sales staff, showroom, etc.). Like most other things, you have to pay for the quality of service that you wish to receive.

When buying a gold necklace or bracelet, it is important to ensure that the clasp is strong enough to support the chain. Also make sure that there are no rough edges that can tangle in hair or clothing. The same applies when you buy a pendant or earrings.
